EOY Activities and Packing up Idea

Today was my last day of school with my lovely children. It's been a terrific year, full of learning gains and unforgettable memories. After 5 years in the same classroom, I had to pack up 20 years of teaching materials and prepare them for a big move to the opposite end of the school. Needless to say, I have been at it for 2 weeks. Thankfully, I had lots of fun activities planned for my students. They were able to work independently, as I purged and packed.

My kindergartners completed a book a day, from my Writing Activities for Young Learners Part 2 Pack. Here are some pictures from one of the books.

They also made some creative labeling sheets from my Writing Station Activities for Young Learners Part 1 Pack.

My first and second graders interviewed each other for The Good Year Gazette: Farewell Edition.

My first graders really enjoyed completing all of the Break the Codes from my end of the year pack. I introduced some Whole Brain Teaching techniques a few months ago and I was glad to see that it had an impact on them.

The student above, chose to go a different route! Truth be told, I am really clumsy, and I guess I say it more often than I thought!

I leave you with a great packing tip. This is something I've been doing for years and it always attracts a lot of attention.

I cover my furniture with old tablecloths! You can get them very inexpensive at the end of a season or holiday. In the above pictures, I have Christmas, Hanukkah, and Spring, very well represented! The tablecloths are durable, reusable, and easily attainable. Try it!

Happy Summer!

  1. Such a great idea to cover up furniture with wrapping paper!

Lori! I have been doing all the organizing myself for the last 5 years. Not sure how it never occured to me to get my little ones to help! They loved it. Never lifting a finger again. =)

    1. Those kids have a lot more patience to scrub tables and bins than I do! I bet they'd never do this stuff at home!

  3. It seems like many of us are moving to other locations. Like you I have been packing up 31 years worth of my treasures. It is difficult letting go isn't it? Excited for the new chapter though! 2nd grade here I come!
I have a large trash bag filled with all of my tablecloths. Love them! Love your idea too!
    Enjoy your summer.

  4. Lori,
My kiddos were having fun doing your Things I Like book today! I love your products!

We have to pack everything up--EVERY YEAR! Yes, even when we don't move rooms. Good times. :)

    Have a great summer!

  5. What a great idea! We don't have to cover furniture with anything because they remove everything from our rooms to wax the floors, BUT, I could totally use that idea to cover up bulletin boards to keep them from fading! (I started a few years ago--putting up beginning of the year bulletin boards BEFORE I leave school and then cover it with bulletin board paper to keep from fading---tablecloths would be so much more "earth friendly" as well as versatile!)

Thanks for the great tips and enjoy your summer! (I had to move rooms a few years ago and have my little firsties make trips to my new room (I was moving to an empty room, so I could do that) They LOVED helping! :)
