Gingerbread Goodies

Here's a post I wrote last year around this time, containing some cute gingerbread activities.
I thought it would be fun to post it again!

Here's a simple kindergarten gingerbread writing activity for you! After reading a gingerbread man book, have the children decide what they want their own gingerbread man to run from.

I didn't help the children write their words. They had to get their mouth ready to say it and keep writing the letters for the sounds they heard. They did a great job and were very proud of themselves.

Click here to get this for free!

Check out more of my gingerbread activities below...

Here is some of what's included...

Here's a picture of the gingerbread dolls my first graders made using fabric paint. This is always a huge hit!

Sight Word Sentence Booklets

I am so excited about these sight word sentence booklets!
I created them because I wanted a QUICK and FUN way for my students to practice each word we learn. My kindergartners feel like such scholars because they are reading!

The booklets are VERY easy to prepare and each booklet just needs ONE sheet of paper! Just print them back to back. Students cut on the faint dotted lines, put the pages in order, and staple. That is all. No fuss. No muss.

Here is what the front and back pages look like before they are cut. Each booklet includes one focus sight word and four predictable sentences. On the last page, students practice writing the word four times.

Here is what they look like after they are cut.

In this set, each booklet is labeled with the lesson number and focus sight word.

And, for those who don't use Journeys, I made a set using ALL the pre-primer and primer Dolch Words.
In this set, each booklet is labeled with the focus sight word.

These booklets are perfect for everyday use, to help your students learn and practice their sight words and reading skills. A lot of thought went into creating each booklet and I look forward to using all of them and watching my students' excitement about reading. They just can't get enough books!

Trick and Treating Blog Hop!

Fall is upon us and that means it's time for some Teaching Trick & Treating!

That's right - I have teamed up with my Freebielicious friends again to share some teaching tricks and special free treats for you!

My students LOVE using their interactive notebook! When the children are working on the left side, the creative side, some children take a little longer to finish. So, I always let the early finishers get up and walk around to see everyone's work. This serves many purposes:

This gallery walk really works like a charm! I hear tons of compliments and some great constructive criticism too. The other day, a student looked at my book and gave me advice on how to make it even better. I took his advice and he was right! I love learning from my students!

My treat is a FREE booklet from my Sight Word / CVC Word Sentence Booklets. I just updated this pack, so if you already own it, download it again!

Just click here and download the preview. The FREEBIE is hidden inside! Enjoy!

Hop along to the next Freebielicious friend to see what their Trick & Treat is!

Bright Idea: Using Google Docs to Schedule Conferences

Welcome to the Bright Ideas Blog Hop!
This month, I wrote a step-by-step tutorial on how to use Google Docs to easily and painlessly schedule your parent/teacher conferences.

No more emails back and forth.

No more reminder notes sent home.

No more hassle.

I promise!

Just follow the steps outlined below and you will no longer fear scheduling conferences.

You do need to create a google drive account, which most people already have anyway if you use gmail or store your files in google drive.

To begin, go to your google drive page.

It may seem like a lot of steps, but it takes just a few minutes from start to finish. Remind the parents that they CANNOT edit the document from their mobile device. I believe there is an app they can download, but I just told my parents to use their computer to edit the schedule.

I hope you enjoyed my Bright Idea!
You can find many, many more ideas by clicking on the link up below! Have fun!
