One of my students loves to use my first name whenever he writes about me. A few times, I've heard him refer to me as Lori. My sister works in the same school and I asked him to take something to her. I heard him ask another child, "Do you want to come with me to take this to Lori's sister, Robin?" I laughed so hard. Is it possible that I'm just too casual?
Today was my last day of school. I have one more planning day and that's it. This week, my first graders were working on an end of the year activity that I created. It's a newspaper article. First, they interviewed each other by asking questions from the interview sheet.
There's that Lori Rosenberg again!
Then, they transferred the information to the newspaper.
They really enjoyed being a reporter and interviewing a friend. This was a fun activity and it allowed me to get a lot of packing done because they were so engaged. In addition, there are also grammar and writing activities, too! And a memory book!

I thought your design was new. It's cute stuff. Your newspaper activity is pretty cute too.

Thanks so much! I couldn't be happier with my blog design! The only thing I can't do now is reply to specific comments. I used to be able to click reply under someone's name and now I don't have that option.

I love the new blog design, Lori!

Lori, I think it comes with working at the same school as your sister. They hear all of use using your first name to differentiate you two and then they do it. I catch my kids calling me C. Mrakovich or Cara sometimes, because they hear my husband's name. Haha!

The Teacher's Backpack
I love your new design Lori! My students figured out my first name and they think it's so funny that they know it. They'll say, "I know your name. It's Sarah" (in a total whisper voice). Ha!

Your new blog design is just as adorable as this writing activity! We wear nametags with our first and last names so....once one of them reads it, they all know your first name, lol! I tell them its ok to know my name just so long as they don't call me by it {tsk, tsk}...:-)
ReplyDeleteI love your new design, Lori. And congratulations on 500, that's fantastic!!

I had a little boy this year whose step mom and I share the same first name. And he'd always come up to me and say "Hey Stephanie...I mean, Mrs. Stewart" But he had no idea and it always made me laugh. You new design is adorable, I love the colors!

The Teacher's Cauldron
I taught my own son this year in a kindergarten pull-out. He always called me "mommy" in the classroom and in the hallways. Several other kiddos started to call me "mommy" as well. It was precious!
ReplyDeleteI taught the child of another teacher last year and whenever he would see her in the hall he would say "Hi Ms. Smith". I just thought it was so funny-what they come up with. At least your kiddos know you have a 1st name-mine think my 1st name is "Miss"! :)
ReplyDeleteHow exciting. 500 followers is great :) I adore the new design. I would soooo much rather some of the kiddos call me by my first name Heidi than screw up my last name Dickey or even shorten it to something not so pleasant...and yes that has happened at the 1st grade level. Oy. Haha

Miss Trayers I have little ones think my first name was Mrs. before. That took some explaining to do haha.

My (Not So) Elementary Life
I had a student this year who apparently learned my name from a visitor and randomly started calling me Greg Smedley. This was all day, everyday. He gave up Mr. Smedley and used Greg Smedley. Interestingly, no other student ever copied him! I also had a student one year get upset if I didn't respond to him fast enough and he would yell, GREG!
ReplyDeleteLove the new design!

Love your very cute blog. Good story. I used to teach my daughter when she was three, and when day she looked at me and said, "Are you Mrs. Sielaff???!!!" Like, "who are these kids always talking about?! You're Mom, not Mrs. Sielaff."

That is too cute that he includes your first name in his writing! I love how fascinated my second graders are when they first learn my real name. My first teaching job was in a Montessori school, so all of the students called me by my first name... it was strange at first, but it grew on me!
ReplyDeletePS: Thanks for stopping by my blog. I am catching up on your old posts right now :)
